In this article, we are going to tell you about Manabezho Falls which is located in Gogebic County, Michigan. This beautiful waterfall is present in the Presque  Isle Scenic Area.  

Located in the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in  Gogebic County, Michigan, Manabezho waterfall falls on the Presque  Isle River. The name Manabezho refers to an Ojibway spirit God. It is one of the three most popular waterfalls of the Presque river. It is below Manido fall and Nawadaha fall. A view of this fall is easily accessible by trail. It is the largest waterfall on the spectacular last mile of the Presque isle river. The 1-mile stretch is very beautiful, with lots of bare and Rapids. This fall is the largest and the last-named drop on the river. It is the closest fall to the parking area. It has a drop of approximately 25 feet, a crest of 150 feet, and a height of  7.62 meters. It is an easily visited fall and a view of this fall is easily accessible by trail. This is a very wide fall but it becomes segmented in summer.  

The Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park covers an area of  60,000 acres of land and is a land to nearly 35,000 acre- old grown  forest, roaring waterfalls, miles of rivers and streams, more than 90  

miles of hiking trails, a modern and rustic campground, backcountry camping, the Lake Superior shoreline, and more. The presence of numerous waterfalls makes the western side of this park attractive for visitors. This area is also known as Presque Isle Scenic Area.

The Manabezho Falls is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The  Upper Peninsula is home to a large number of waterfalls. There are more than 300 waterfalls scattered across the Upper Peninsula, ranging in size from 5 feet to 48 plus feet vertical drops. Most of them are small and often described as Rapids. Almost all the falls require hiking, but there are paths to some of the popular falls. 

How to get to Manabezho Falls 

This waterfall is closest to the parking area. A short walk with some stairs will lead you to this fall. This fall can be seen from the trails on both sides of the river. It takes around 5 to 10 minutes to reach this fall from the main parking area. You can hike to this fall and you will enjoy this nature walk. The drive time to Manabezho fall trail from  Lake of Clouds is around 45 minutes. If you are coming from Lake of  Clouds or other parts of this park, follow the park road west through the park. There are many trailheads for this fall depending on where you want to start from.  

To directly reach this fall, your destination on Google Maps should be  Presque Isle State Campground. This will not take you to the campground but is an accurate location to reach the fall. By setting your destination as the campground, you will come across a trail access point as you near the campground. 

Things to do in Manabezho Falls 

Manabezho Fall is the northernmost of the three waterfalls of the Porcupine Mountains. As this fall is located in Mountain Wilderness  State Park so it has a lot of other beautiful places to explore such as  Lake of Clouds, Porcupine Mountains Ski Area, etc. Waterfalls have been an important destination for tourists for years. They release negative ions and when we are around these waterfalls our body soaks up these ions as positive energy thus making us naturally happy. You can also consider going for a hike this fall and then follow that up with a picnic in a quiet area surrounded by natural beauty. After taking a glimpse of this fall you can also visit the two other beautiful waterfalls present in this park. If you are interested in hiking to see all the three falls you can park your car side off the road there. The main road is also known as S Boundary Road and Forest Trail 117 on maps. 

The Mountains Wilderness State Park also provides its visitors with other recreational activities such as an extensive network of backcountry trails for hiking, wilderness backpacking, etc. 

However, as per the State of Michigan Parks and  Recreation, swimming is not allowed in any of the waterfalls.
